An exception I can think of is the Atelier series, which has very thick, attractive manuals albeit half in French. There are certainly more games that have real manuals, and in these the detailed character descriptions are sometimes exclusive to the manual itself But in-game gameplay instructions are always present and always superior at this point To quote Borderlands 2 manual: If you would like even more detailed information on how to play Borderlands 2, you should definitely check out the online version of the manual at www.
